Lewis "Whitey" Humpherys - Class of 1931 VIEW PROFILE

SODA SPRINGS -- Lewis W. Humpherys, 89, of Soda Springs, passed away Monday, August 20, 2001, at the Caribou Memorial Living Center.

He was born December 7, 1911, at Dingle, Bear Lake, Idaho, the son of Samuel and Christina Sorensen Humpherys. He was raised in Camp Stewart, Idaho, and had also lived at Conda and Montpelier. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1931.

He married Erma Dalrymple March 7, 1934, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Mrs. Humpherys passed away January 7, 1998.

He had worked for Monsanto Co., retiring in 1969. He had also worked at the Anaconda Mining Co., and as a meat cutter for Fowler's Market.

Lewis was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Second Ward, and had served as ward clerk. He had worked in the Scouting program with his wife. They were also dance directors, and worked in the Young Men's and Women's organizations.

He was an excellent woodworker and furniture maker. He quilted many quilts with his wife. He made many afghans on a special board for family and friends. Lewis was a very special papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, Larry D. and Tess Humpherys, Tracy, California, and Roger W. and Lynda Humpherys, Soda Springs, Idaho; also 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother and four sisters, Don Humpherys, Dingle, Idaho, Marge Rushton, Ogden, Utah, Mary and Leroy Bosch, Pocatello, Idaho, Berniece and Ross Hunter, Ogden, Utah, and Mellie Humpherys; a sister-in-law, from Soda Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Caroline, a son, Ronald Joe, two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 27, 2001, at noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Stanley Dorius officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Idaho Cemetery in Soda Springs.

Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
