Douglas "Jack" Freeman - Class of 1949

(March 19, 1931 – January 10, 1997) Born in Nounan, ID and Died in Las Vegas, NV.  Buried in Central, Washington, Utah.

Written by Jack's daughter, Christina Sage, for the 50th reunion book of the class of 1949.

In approximately 1954-1955, my dad, Douglas Jack Freeman, or Jack to everyone who knew him best, started working for J.D. Edwards Pipeline.  This job took him to several different states, including Idaho, Oregon, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Washington, and Louisiana, just to mention a few.  Prior to this he was married to “Mary” in Montpelier, ID, and had four children with her:  Douglas Jack, Jr., Brenda, Lianna, and Roxanne

In early 1956 he married Bessie Curtis or Pat to those who know her best.  She traveled on the road with him while he pipelined.  In 1961, Jack left Farmington, New Mexico and headed to Las Vegas, Nevada on Christmas Day and joined the Teamsters Union, and became employed at the Nevada Test Site in Mercury, NV.  His family joined him there in January 1962.

In 1969, Jack left the test site and became a heavy equipment operator in Las Vegas where he continued to work until he had to take a medical retirement in 1987.  During his time as a heavy equipment operator, he built quite a reputation within the construction business.  Often they would “bid” for him to come to work for them and he would take the best offer.

After a long 10 year battle with emphysema, Jack passed away on Friday, January 10, 1997 in Las Vegas, NV.  He was buried in Central, Washington, Utah.
