Edith Bowen (Simmons) - Class of 1930

Edith Bowen Simmons, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, peacefully passed from this mortal existence on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000.

She was born in Montpelier, Idaho Jan. 23, 1913 to Willy Lou Carlton Robbins and Brigham Harris Bowen. She married George William Simmons in Montpelier, Idaho, May 7, 1932. They were eternally sealed in the Logan LDS Temple Sept. 21, 1951.

Edith was known by all, to be gentle and kind. She loved people and was a wonderful friend to all who knew her. Her delight was caring for her husband and family. She kept an immaculate home and yard, loved flowers, gardening, and did beautiful crocheting and knitting.

She was a devoted member of the LDS Church, having served in many ward and stake callings, including many years as Ward Relief Society president, and visiting teacher. She supported and assisted her husband in every way, including his many years of volunteer service.

She is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Mary Lou (Charles) Burgoyne; daughter-in-law, Vickie Grant; nine grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. To her great sorrow, she was preceded in death by their son, Jim.

The family wishes to express appreciation to all the medical personnel who have been so thoughtful and kind to her. Also the caring staff and friends at The Inn on Barton Creek.

Services will be Thursday, October 5 at 11 a.m. in the Orchard Stake Center, 3599 S. Orchard Drive, Bountiful. Friends may call prior to the funeral 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be at the Centerville City Cemetery.
