Dean Wright - Class of 1936

Ernest Dean Wright, 82, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand-father passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 with his devoted wife and daughter at his side. He was born May 4, 1918 in Montpelier, Idaho. He was the adopted son of Silas L. and Ida L. Wright.

He married Nola Clark on Sept. 13, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He attended the Bennington Idaho School, graduated from Montpelier High School, and received a BA in Sociology from Utah State University. He completed graduate studies at the University of Utah and the University of Chicago.

He served as the Director of the Division of Corrections for the State of Utah for nearly 20 years. He served on the faculty of the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Utah. He participated in the development of a corrections certificate and an undergraduate degree program at Weber State University, and conducted corrections training courses at Utah State University. He received the American Correctional Association E.R. Cass Award in recognition of his service to the association and his professional leadership in the field of corrections.

He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Bear River Mutual Insurance Company from 1972 until his death, and as the Board Chairman since 1984.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in the MIA, Sunday School, as a High Priest Group leader and instructor, as a member of the Salt Lake 11th Ward Bishopric, and as a member of the University Stake High Council.

He is survived by his wife, Nola Clark Wright; his daughter, Nolene (Darrell) Reynolds; his grandson, Anthony (Connie) Reynolds and their children, Clark, Chase, and Megan; his granddaughter, Tiffany (Richard) Stoll and their children, Sarah and Emily; and his granddaughter Tatiana (Henry) Ihrig and their children, Madeline and Hillary.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at 12 noon at the Monument Park 16th Ward chapel, 1320 South Wasatch Drive (2520 E). Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
