Effie Holmes (Rasmussen) - Class of 1936

Effie Mae Holmes Rasmussen, 80, passed from this world Tuesday, September 8, 1998 in Phillipsburg, Montana of natural causes.  She was born May 22. 1918 in Bennington and was the third of 12 children born to Oliver Wendell and Isabelle Janette Holmes.  As a small child she lived with her dear grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Hall in Bennington before moving to Montpelier with her family.  She attended school there graduating from Montpelier High School in 1936.  She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church.  On September 11, 1936 Effie married Harold E. Rasmussen in Paris.  They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple June 13, 1941.  To this union was born a daughter, Myrlin, a son, Paul Dean and a daughter, Linda.  Effie and Harold moved to Helena, Montana in 1941.  She was a wonderful homemaker and was active in Relief Society and taught Primary.  In 1949 Effie and Harold moved to Great Falls, Montana.  Effie and Harold owned and operated Hemple's Bakery for many years.  At age 68 she learned to play the piano.  Funeral services were held Monday, September 14 in the Montpelier First Ward Chapel.  Burial was in the Bennington Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
