Virl Bentsen - Class of 1940

POCATELLO - Virl Bentsen McMurray, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, September 15, 2003, at her home in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born March 30, 1922, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Hans Christian and Sophronia Jane Dayton Bentsen. Virl was the sixth of eight children. She was raised and educated in Montpelier, Idaho.

Virl married Howard Austin McMurray February 24, 1940, in Randolph, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized on December 12, 1955, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Howard passed away May 9, 2001.

Virl was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose life revolved around her family and loved ones. She loved a clean home, a beautiful yard with flowers and a vegetable garden. Her talents included canning, candy making, crocheting and making beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. Mom was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for anyone who stopped by. Throughout her life Mom enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and Dutch-oven cooking. After Dad retired, they spent the winter months in Yuma, Arizona.

Virl was an active member of the LDS Church. She served as president of the Young Women, secretary of the Relief Society, Primary Teacher and as a visiting teacher.

Virl is survived by four daughters, Linda Nelson of Orem, Utah, LaRae (Richard) Hansen of Pocatello, Idaho, Shelley (Brent) Hyldahl of Pocatello, Idaho, and Krista Hammond of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Bonnie Berg, of Salt Lake City, Utah; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and she was waiting the birth of her first great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and five brothers.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 19, 2003, at 11 a.m., in the Indian Hills 30th Ward Chapel at 5425 Bannock Highway, Pocatello, Idaho. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
