Nellie Homer (Nelson) - Class of 1940

MONTPELIER - Nellie Homer Nelson, 82, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. She was born March 24, 1921 in Montpelier to James Edgar and Ida Janet Bird Homer. She was blessed to have five brothers and one sister. She married Merlin Carter Nelson on Nov. 22, 1942 and he passed away on Sept. 12, 1976. To this union four children were born: Diane, Dennis, Beth and Monte Ray, better known as Pete.

She lived in Montpelier all of her life, working at several local business throughout the years. The last few years she had enjoyed working and the friendships she shared with those at the Ranch Hand.

Nellie is survived by her four children, Diane Nelson of Midvale, Utah, Dennis (Angela) Nelson of Montpelier, Beth (Robert) Johnston of Sandy, Utah, Pete of Montpelier; three grandchildren, 10 grandchildren; her sister, Ada Gambling of Sharon, Idaho; one brother, Kenneth (Maxine) Homer of Minidoka, Idaho; and two sisters-in-law, Verda Homer of Montpelier, and Vera Homer of Soda Springs, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merlin; four brothers, Delbert, Ray, Archie and Eddie; and a granddaughter, Shelley.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. in the Montpelier 4th Ward Chapel; burial will be in the Montpelier Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
