Beulah Lewis (Smith) - Class of 1941

OGDEN – Beulah Allegra Lewis Smith, 83, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 23, 2008 with her loving husband at her side.

She was born October 20, 1924 in Dingle, Bear Lake, Idaho the daughter of Thomas George Lewis and Calla Irene Booth. She was married to Thiel William Smith, Sept. 3, 1946 in the Salt Lake City Temple by Joseph Fielding Smith.

Beulah was raised in the Bear Lake Valley and graduated from Montpelier High School at the age of 16. Before her marriage, she worked at the First Security Bank as a bookkeeper, transit clerk and teller. Beulah and Thiel began their married life in Montpelier and Georgetown and later lived in Logan while Thiel went to school. They settled in Ogden to raise their family. She was a homemaker and seasonal worker at IRS.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a stake mission while in Montpelier and served faithfully in the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary.

She enjoyed square dancing, was an avid genealogist, spending much time serving at the Ogden Family History Center and was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Beulah is survived by her husband; five children; Verlin (Cindy) Smith, Brad (Cathy) Smith, Karen (Doug) Browning, Malia (Val) Gabbitas and Natalie (Will) Ormond; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one sister; Maurine Lewis Perkins.

She was preceded in death by her son George; granddaughter Ashlee Ormond; three brothers; Calvert, Ralph and Merrill Lewis; and one sister Audrey Lewis

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Rockcliff 7th Ward, 300 Gramercy Ave., Ogden.
