LaVonda Bentsen (Stanfield Berg) - Class of 1943

Deseret News, 10/10/10

LaVonda Bonnie Bentsen Stanfield Berg 1925 ~ 2010 Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died Sunday, October 3, 2010 in Bountiful, Utah. Bonnie was born on March 19, 1925 in Montpelier, Idaho to Hans Christian (Chris) and Sophronia Bentsen. She married Max L. Stanfield on November 28, 1942, later sealed in the Logan Temple. They had four children together before Max died in 1971. Bonnie married Robert S. Berg on August 24, 1973, gaining five more children as she successfully blended the two families together. Bonnie was a beautiful, gracious, generous, loving and kind woman with a vibrant personality. When she smiled, the sparkle in her eyes hinted at some secret mischief you knew you wanted to be a part of. She was always positive and cheerful, and made activities more fun just by being a part of them. She loved her family and was happiest when they were around. Every one of her grandchildren will tell you they were grandma's favorite. She had a talent for making each of them feel special. She always treated her step children as her own. And many family friends will tell you they felt part of Bonnie's family as well. Bonnie loved Bear Lake, where she and Max built a family cabin. Over the years, that cabin helped cement the family together, with summer memories on the beach, rousing games of Five Crowns or Hand and Foot and of course, great food. She spent as much time there as possible. Her sons took her on her last trip only two weeks prior to her passing. Bonnie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She truly enjoyed life - and taught her family the importance of finding joy. Special thanks to all of Bonnie's caregivers towards the end of her life. She is survived by her children: Ronald (Judy) Stanfield; Chris (Janis) Stanfield; Susan Maynard; Mike (Marianne) Stanfield; Barbara (Doug) Olson, Robyn (Warren) Curtis; Dave Porter; David (Marie) Berg; Bill (Karen) Berg; 53 grandchildren and 33 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Max and Bob, daughter Susan Porter, one grandson and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Brighton Point Chapel, 3455 E. 7800 S., Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Interment - Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
