In Memory

Richard Barnes - Class of 1946

Idaho State Journal, 01/25/11

Richard Allen “Barney” Barnes, our dear father and husband, passed from this mortal life Jan. 18, 2011, at the age of 84. He died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by those he loved. He was born on a cold, clear morning on the kitchen table of the family home in Montpelier, Idaho.

Barney married his high school sweetheart, Carol Quayle, and they had three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Barney and Carol were sealed to each other and their family in the Idaho Falls Temple in October 1977.

They have been active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities including a full-time couple’s mission at Ogallala, S.D., and as officiators at the Logan, Utah Temple.

Barney was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish, golf and ski. His love of skiing was passed on to his children and grandchildren, and we will continue to make some turns for Dad, remembering all the times he laced our boots, waxed our skis and comforted our bumps and bruises.

He worked in many parts of the Western states, served at many jobs and attended school at Idaho State University. His working career ended with Kaiser Engineers at the Hanford nuclear plant, where he served in management capacities, for which he received a number of awards.

We will miss our dear father and husband, but his memory is a keepsake with which we will never part. God has him in his keeping; we have him in our hearts.

It was his wish that his body be donated to science as an anatomical gift to be preserved and used for purposes of medical studies, teaching and research.
