Marian Wilson (Sparks) - Class of 1947

MONTPELIER, Idaho — Marian Jean Wilson Sparks, 82, returned to her loving Heavenly Father on May 1, 2010. She was born April 13, 1928, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Lloyd G. and Caroline M. Nelson Wilson. 
Marian lived in Pocatello until she was in the eighth grade. She later moved to Montpelier, Idaho, with her parents where she graduated from Montpelier High School.

Marian married Daryl C. Sparks April 9, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Pocatello for five years and moved to Montpelier where they made their home and raised their family. To this union was born one son, Steven Daryl, and four daughters, Terry Jean, Darla Kay, Lori Ann and Debbie Jo.

Marian was an active member of the LDS Church, graduated from Seminary where she held the office of vice president. In 1947, she was crowned queen of the LDS 1st Ward Gold and Green Ball and in 1958, became a Golden Gleaner. She served as Primary President, Primary Counselor, Primary Chorister and teacher in the Relief Society.

Marian worked as a receptionist for Dr. Russell Tigert, clerked in retail stores in Montpelier and Pocatello, worked several years in the ad department for the News Examiner and a short time for the Bear Lake Gazette.

Marian loved to be with her children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She also loved to read, poetry being a favorite, and she loved sports of all kinds especially the Cubs and the Jazz. She enjoyed following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting events. She also loved music having sung in a sextet at funerals and special events in her younger years. She enjoyed traveling and going on many trips with her children.

Marian is survived by Terry (Dennis) Nate, Cokeville, Wyo.; Steven (Trecia) Sparks, Montpelier, Idaho; Lori (Dean) Hidalgo, Garland, Utah; Debbie (Bill) Harrison, Malad, Idaho; one brother, Brent (Gwen) Wilson, Puyallup, Wash.; thirty-three grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, a daughter (Darla Kay), four grandchildren and one grandson-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier, LDS 4th Ward. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
