Dorothy Buhler (Lewis) - Class of 1948

MONTPELIER — Dorothy Ione Lewis, 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2008. Dorothy was born January 13, 1930, in Montpelier, Idaho. She was the oldest daughter of three children born to Harold Buhler and Zylpha Harris.

She spent her childhood on ranches north of Bennington, Idaho. She did ranch work, haying, mowing and helping with whatever needed to be done. She went to grade school in Bennington and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1948.

She married Russell W. Lewis in July 1955. They lived in Paris and Montpelier. They had four children and were later divorced. She loved the outdoors, picnicking, all kinds of animals and birds, especially hummingbirds.

She helped her parents, caring for their needs. She was always kind, gentle and willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. She always had time to listen.

Spending time with her children and grandchildren was a highlight in her life. She loved being around the campfire roasting marshmallows with them and sharing stories. She enjoyed planting flowers, crocheting hot pads, canning fruits and vegetables, entering her canning in the Bear Lake County Fair, and genealogy. 
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held various callings during her lifetime.

Dorothy is survived by one sister, Donna Brown, Montpelier, Idaho; two sons, Russell (Yvonne) Lewis, Shoshoni, Wyoming, John (Lynne) Lewis, Ririe, Idaho; two daughters, Vickie (Lowell) Nelson, Highland, Utah, Debbie Murphy, Granger, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, a sister and a son-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 7, at 11 a.m. in the Montpelier First and Fourth Wards Chapel. The interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery, with the services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
