Margene Mitton (Thurston) - Class of 1950

Margene Mitton Thurston, 75, passed away peacefully in her Bear River City home on Saturday, August 23, 2008. She was born October 6, 1932 in Logan to Melvin J. and Lavelma Frederick Mitton. She married Archie Woolf Thurston on August 19, 1960 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Margene grew up on the family ranch in Nounan, Idaho and graduated from Montpelier High School. She obtained her bachelors and masters degrees from Utah State University. While in Cache Valley she was crowned as Cache County Rodeo Queen. She enjoyed a love of horses and art throughout her life. While a teacher at Bear River High and Junior High Schools, Margene served as advisor to the high school rodeo club. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints residing in the Bear River 2nd Ward. She is survived by her husband, Archie; brothers, Mel and Reed; sister, Joyce Rainey; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who dearly loved her. Preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Fri., August 29, 2008 at the Bear River 2nd Ward Chapel 5870 N. 4700 W., Bear River City, with Bishop Jeff Jones conducting. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
