Deseret Morning News, 02/01/07

Robert Carlyle Stephens Super Dad & Grandpa Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly Jan 30, 2007 while doing what he enjoyed most, supporting his beloved grandchildren. Bob was born June 6, 1933, in Bennington, ID to Thomas and Lorraine Caldwell Stephens. He greatly treasured growing up in Bear Lake County where he graduated from Montpelier High School in 1951. He served honorably in the US Navy and fulfilled an LDS Mission to Brazil from 1955-57 that he truly loved.

He was a dedicated employee for 28 years at Hercules Powder until 1991. Upon retirement he worked an additional 10 enjoyable years at Zion's Bank. Our father found much joy serving in the gospel of Jesus Christ where he touched numerous lives while serving in many church callings including Bishop, Stake President and teacher; but none greater than a loving friend to all. His life was dedicated to helping others feel better about themselves and find happiness in their lives.

He married Coleen Matthews for time and all eternity in the LDS Logan Temple, Jan 10, 1958, and have cherished 49 wonderful years together. The love of their lives is their family and the greatest joy was being together with their three sons and families. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Paul and David. Survived by his loving wife, Coleen; three sons: Robert (Gayla), Royce (Nancy), and Ryan (Kris); ten cherished grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Gordon; sister, Margaret Ann; and brother, Richard.
