Jay Nielsen - Class of 1966

MONTPELIER - Jay Christian Nielsen, 51, passed away August 21, 1999, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born August 7, 1948, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Eugene Christian and Ruth Stephens Nielsen. He attended elementary through high school in Montpelier.

After attending Ricks College, he moved to Salt Lake City and graduated from Utah Tech with an associate degree in electronics technology. He worked for Rainbow Adventure Film Company, traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Later he worked for Eaton Kennway in robotics. Jay was an active member and leader of the Alliance House, a non-profit organization for the disabled.

Jay C. enjoyed boating on Bear Lake and spent many wonderful hours at Glencoe, the Nielsen family property. He was active in hiking, swimming, clock repair, theater and the symphony.

For all but the first six years of Jay's life he suffered from poor health. Despite his disabilities, he was able to receive a Life Scout award, overcome two kidney transplants, maintain his independence and give of his time and energy to others.Jay is survived by three sisters, Meriel (Earl) Monical of Montpelier; Janis (Bruce) Thompson of Boulder, Colo.; Christin (Ron) Jensen of Lakewood, Colo.; 12 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Natalie NIelsen.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 24, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the McKinley LDS Ward chapel at 1890 South West Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment will follow at the Montpelier, Idaho, cemetery at 4 p.m. with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay St., Montpelier.
