Jimmy Kunz - Class of 1963

Jimmy Reed Kunz of Bern, Idaho, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 13, 2005. Jimmy was born March 6, 1945, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Reed Walter and Edith Poulsen Kunz. He was their fifth son. Jimmy attended school in Bern until fifth grade and then attended school in Montpelier. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1963.

Jimmy's love for the outdoors began very early as he worked for Tony Kunz on his farm. Jimmy's youth was also filled with hunting, fishing and playing football. After graduating from high school, Jimmy went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. Jimmy continued to work for them for 42 years. He was a conductor for Union Pacific at the time of his death.

Shortly after Jimmy began working for the railroad he met Suzan Tamari Williams. Jimmy and Tami were married in the Logan LDS Temple on July 10, 1970. They were blessed with six children and five grandchildren. Jimmy's wife, children and grandchildren were his most treasured possessions. Jimmy loved spending time with his family. He always made time for family gatherings and loved to go on adventures with his children. He delighted in their progress and success. Jimmy also loved spending time with his family outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed trips into the mountains for wood, berries and Christmas trees. Jimmy enjoyed befriending others and took every opportunity to make friends and loved ones happy. He was always happy to help others.

Jimmy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served faithfully in all callings he was asked to perform. Jimmy had the opportunity to serve in the Elders Quorum Presidency for 15 years. He also served as First Counselor in four bishoprics, High Priest Group Leader and Boy Scout Leader. Jimmy was serving as the ward Emergency Preparedness Specialist and a Home Teacher at the time of his death.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Tami and six children: Thad Jimmy Kunz (Karin), Terry Dustin Kunz (Tessa), Jan Nikol Torkornoo (Joachim), Tyson Reed Kunz (Lyndsie), Jodi Suzan Kitchen (Bryant), Joye Tami Kunz and five grandchildren: Kadie Elizabeth Kunz, Kyler Aaron Kunz, Shelbie Dawn Kunz, Aysha Nikol Afi Torkornoo and Victoria Tamari Kunz.

Jimmy is also survived by four brothers and one sister: Lynn Kunz (Carol), Dave Kunz (Bonnie), Arlo Kunz, Allen Kunz and Ann Johnson (Benny). He was preceded in death by his parents, Reed and Edith Kunz, one brother Clair Kunz and two sisters-in-law, Idell King Kunz and Beverly Hill Kunz.

Funeral services were August 17, 2005, in the Bern LDS Ward Chapel. Interment was in the Bern Cemetery.
