Merla Nelson (Rigby) - Class of 1942

Merla Mary Nelson Rigby was born to George W. Nelson and Mary Agnes Wood Nelson on Nov. 3 1924. She was born in Pegram. She had a very happy childhood with many fond memories. She loved her family. She was the third child in a family of four, two brother and one sister.

Merla married Henry W. Rigby on May 14, 1942. Together they had five children. Merla supported her husband during his service in WWII and was a major part of the ranch life they had together. She loved her life and worked so hard.

Merla loved music and was very talented. She played the organ, piano and accordian. Often playing at parties, weddings, funerals and church. She loved to square dance too.

She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and held many position through the years. She started playing for church meetings at the age of 13 and continued being the organist until her eyes couldn't read the music.

Merla's family, friends and neighbors were very important to her and she was always eager to help.

On Dec. 21, 2012 Merla was called to join her husband Henery; Parents, George and Mary; brothers and sister, Earl, Kelvin and Peggy; daughter JoAnn; granddaughter Andrea Jo, great-granddaughter Reesie, to her beautiful heavenly home. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Gay Afton, Kenneth (Tamara), Burley, Keith (Lila), Pegram, Sheri, Montpelier, plus 16 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In loving honor of this wonderful spirit, Merla's services were held Dec 28, 2012.
