In Memory

Betty Bowen (Stalder) - Class of 1944

Our beautiful mother, grandmother, and friend, Betty Bowen Stalder, 85, passed away on October 20, 2012, surrounded by her loving family in Pocatello, Idaho.

Betty was born November 27, 1926, in Midvale, Utah, to Harry Bowen and Helen Latey Bowen. Her parents were divorced when she was young and she and her sister, Donna, moved to Bern, when their mother married Elmer Buhler. Their brother, Gary Buhler, was later born to this union. Betty's father, Harry Bowen, remarried and Betty and Donna were blessed with four half-sisters, Rolene, Jeri, Vicki, and Janine.

Betty received most of her education in Bern, Idaho. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1944. She loved athletics and was an avid baseball player, in the position of catcher. In fact, she broke her leg playing baseball. Betty always told the story of the time she was in grade school and she entered a contest to see who could throw a baseball the farthest. She was so tickled that she out threw everyone in her class, even the boys!

Betty married Douglas Stalder on February 3, 1946, in Bern, Idaho. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 4, 1946. To this union was born a daughter, Karen, and a son, Terry.

Doug's work with Morrison Knutson took their family all over the world. The Stalders made their home in Columbia, Brazil, Africa, and El Salvador. They have shared many memories of these times with their family and friends that they will cherish forever.

After traveling and living abroad for several years, they decided that Pocatello, Idaho, was their home and have resided here ever since. Betty and Doug's love story could have been a movie script. They were in love with each other until the day God called Betty home.

Betty was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Primary teacher, a librarian, a counselor in a Relief Society presidency, and a stake missionary with her loving husband, Douglas. She was also a very faithful and devoted visiting teacher.

Betty is survived by her husband, Douglas Stalder; her children, Karen Dolbeer and Terry Stalder; her daughter-in-law Erini Stalder; four grandchildren, Joey Dolbeer, Audrey Dolbeer Tyndall (Bradley), Jack Stalder (Marsha), Rebecca Stalder; and three greatgrandchildren, Jeremy, Jalon, and Georgia. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister, Donna Wright, her little brother, Gary Buhler, and her loving son-in-law, Richard Dolbeer.

Funeral services were held October 27, 2012, at the Downard Funeral Home (241 North Garfield, Pocatello, Idaho).
