Paul Swensen - Class of 1939

Paul Lorenzo Swensen, age 82, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2004 in Salt Lake City, UT. Paul was born June 8, 1921 in Montpelier, ID to Lorenzo and Eloise Swensen. On June 1, 1945, he married Alice Webley Folland in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission. He later served as a bishop and in many other church callings. He and Alice served as missionaries in the England Leeds Mission and later served on the Temple Square Concert Series Committee. Paul also spent many hours as a volunteer at the Church Museum. His interests included woodworking, camping, and Scouting, in which he received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a professional photographer and was skilled in all types of crafts and trades. His professional career was as a foreman with AMOCO. He loved his family greatly and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially in the family pool. He was a friend to all. Survivors include daughter Marjorie Whitchurch (Robert) of Frankfurt, Germany; son Robert Swensen (Julie) of Salt Lake City; daughter Ruth Stoddard (Kim) of West Bountiful; daughter Ann Sweeney (Scott) of Alpine; and daughter Shirley Turley (Richard, Jr.) of Taylorsville; 29 grandchildren, 23 great-grand children, and sisters Barbara Baer (Sherwin), Mary Lou Jones (Gordon), and Dorthea Kendall. Preceded in death by his wife, Alice, parents, sisters Marjorie Swensen and Geraldine Watkins, and grandchildren Steven Sweeney and Kayleigh Whitchurch. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the East Millcreek 9th Ward, 3750 So. Hillside Lane (2600 E).
