Larry Rigby (1960)

When Jerry moved from Kemmerer Wyoming to Montpelier to attend high school we met in Louise Adams type class and became best friends. I liked how crazy he was and always willing to have a tremendous amount of fun and adventure. After our missions we lived together while attending State University and dated a wide variety of girls. The summer after graduation we both married and Jerry taught school in Blackfoot Idaho and I went on to graduate school at BYU, t the University of Kansas and John's Hopkins. We stayed in touch by writing letters and talking on the telephone. A couple of times he visited me in Lawrence Kansas. After a couple of years he developed a deadly brain tumor and miraculously survived it after a long and difficult surgery followed by extensive radiation therapy. Some years later he was in a head-on collision in Sardine Canyon but miraculously survived that only to acquire an infection from the finger of a surgical glove left in his chest by the ER doctor in Brigham City who inserted a chest tube immediately after the car accident. After a long struggle to overcome the infection, he succumbed. I had the sad honor of speaking at his funeral service.

Jerry has four wonderful sons who are successful in life.

He often joked that he wanted me to be a member of his family and even designated a cousin of his whom i should marry. Ironically I met her, fell deeply in love, and married her. This year Nancy Aland and I celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. I have to believe that Jerry is pleased with his matchmaking.

I was so sad when my good friend died. And I cherish to this day the many wild and fun times we had together.
