Hal and I developed a close friendship in high school that continued during our years at the University of Utah.  He, Jim Rich, Sheldon Hansen and I roomed in the Ballif Hall dormitory and had more fun than we deserved.  Hal was in many ways intellectually advanced above most dorm men.  He went on to earn a PhD in entomology and became an expert in mosquitos, working for the state in abatement and for industry in various capacities.  I re-connected with him in Salt Lake City when we both returned there from our various years of establishing our careers.  But, alas, soon after our renewed friendship he died.  He had a very nice funeral service.
