Charles Grant

Charles Grant passed away Friday, March 24, 2023.

Charles Moses “Tiny” Grant was born in Bancroft, Idaho December 23, 1931, to Charles Calvin Grant and Mabel Croney Grant. Amid many cousins, aunts, and uncles, he attended grade school, junior high, and high school in Southeastern Idaho, graduating from American Falls High School in 1950. He went on to the University of Utah where, under “Pappy” Jack Curtice, he was a player on the 1951-1954 championship football teams. Many life-long friendships were created among the members of that team. He also was a championship heavyweight wrestler at the “U” and was elected to the Beehive Honor Society of the University of Utah. Charles became an educator and coach, teaching and coaching at Montpelier High School in Montpelier, Idaho, Clearfield High School in Clearfield, Utah, and Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. Following his coaching career he served in several administrative positions at Ricks, retiring in 1997.

Involved in civic and church affairs, Charles was a member of the Madison School District 321 Board of Trustees as well as the Idaho State Board of Education, serving on that board for five years, one year as its President. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he had the privilege of serving in many leadership positions. He served as the Mission President, Leader, of the California Anaheim Mission (1981-1984) and held the same position at the Provo Missionary Training Center (1992-1994). At the time of his death, he was a Patriarch.

He married Gay Kendrick June 12, 1957, and they are the parents of four children, Trisha (Cal) Udy, Tracie, Kendall (Susan) and Trent (Robin). He is survived by Gay, his children, ten wonderful grandchildren: Greg, Carly, Tanner, Kendall, Michael, Kendrick, Collin, McKenna, Adri, and Katy, and four precious great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Kendall and Boyd.

A viewing and funeral will be held at the St. Anthony 3rd Ward church located at 507 W 2nd N, St. Anthony, Idaho, with the viewing on Thursday, March 30th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, March 31st from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral. Interment will be in the Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, Idaho, at a later date.
