Our beloved father, grandfather, and brother, Robert (Bob) Winn Aland, 72, returned to his Heavenly Father on January 12, 2018. After many years spent struggling to breathe, it comforts us to know he is now in a place where he can run with his adventurous soul. He was born in Montpelier, ID to Albert Smith and Anna May (Winn) Aland on July 20, 1945. Bob was the eighth child of ten children. He had five brothers, (Gordon, Shane, Richard, Shaun, and John) and four sisters (Lois, Shirley, Barbara, and Susan).  Bob started his life in a loving home that valued family and prepared him for his life's journey.

Bob grew up in the Bear Lake area, where he spent much of his time. He learned to swim in the lake and has kept his family returning there to this day. One of his favorite memories he loved to share was his personal encounter with the Bear Lake Monster.

Bob was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He left the Montpelier area to serve a mission for his church in the Northern California Mission. Upon return he moved to Provo, UT where he attended Brigham Young University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, with a dual major in Accounting and Computer Science. While attending BYU he met the love of his life on a blind date, Karen Matthia. After three dates he knew his heart was stolen and their engagement began. They were married on June 13, 1967 in the LDS Logan Temple. He was a very loving husband and was by Karen's side for the rest of his life. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Bob and Karen have seven children together. Bob had a great love for his children, grandchildren and really any child. He opened his home to many foster children. He also had four exchange students from around the world that he came to consider his own.  He has even been referred to as the "Baby Whisperer".  He was a very loving father and was adored by all his children. From crazy adventures to supporting hugs, he was always by their side. He continued to give his unconditional love to his grandchildren. They giggled at his humor and embraced his hugs. Family was the most important part of Bob's life. He was a true believer to make sure you put your family first.

In pursuing his chosen career path he was brought to Pleasant Grove, UT in 1974, where he stayed for the rest of his life. He excelled in a very successful career, starting at the Bank of Pleasant Grove moving on to be one of the Founders and Executive Vice President of Western Community Bank. Bob had a passion for the city he lived in and worked in many capacities within the city, including the Chamber of Commerce. Still to this day, it is a very common occurrence, when meeting someone that learns you are related to Bob, to hear "I love Bob" or "he is such a good man" from the people who worked with him throughout his career.

Bob always kept religion as a center of his life. He served in various church callings for many decades, which included his time serving as the bishop for six years in the Timpanogos 3rd Ward and leadership in the Pleasant Grove 9th Ward. Bob had a big influence upon many of the youth of Pleasant Grove during this time. They were inspired by his wisdom and direction and they were won over by his caring nature. For the last three he served with his wife a service mission at the Lindon Home Storage Center.

Bob loved his country and he proudly served during the Vietnam War. He loved playing and watching all sports. He was a big BYU football fan and enjoyed much of his time in the stadium. He had an adventurous soul and enjoyed the thrills of life, from a good rollercoaster to being outdoors on a new journey. Any time spent with Bob would be spent with his great sense of humor. He brought smiles and laughs to those who came into his life.

He is survived by his eternal partner, Karen Aland; their children Karl and Mette Aland (son and daughter-in-law), Gary and Kristi Wulfenstein (son-in-law and daughter), Wendy Miner (daughter), Kevin and Kari Cox (son-in-law and daughter), John and Beca Aland (son and daughter-in-law), Ryan and Julia Olson (son-in-law and daughter), Weston and Sara Aland (son and daughter-in-law), 25 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild (on the way), two brothers, three sisters, several nieces and nephews and countless life long friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Ninth Ward Chapel, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove.  Family and friends may attend a viewing Wednesday evening, January 17, 2018 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 72.
