Raymond Shepherd - Class of 1960

Mr. Raymond G. Shepherd, 74, of Shangri Lane, Bedford, PA. died Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. 

Mr. Shepherd was born in Montpelier, ID on Friday, December 5, 1941,  the son of the late Edward "Pete" and Julia Margaret (Gerber) Shepherd. 

On October 11, 1986, he married Edith P. "Edie" (Growden) Shepherd.  In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Brian Shepherd husband of Michelle, Wisconsin; Son- Steven Shepherd husband of Michelle, Hawaii; Daughter- Laura Shepherd, Centerville, UT; Son- John Shepherd husband of Reiko, St. George, UT; Sister- Julie Stockdale, Salt Lake City, UT; Brother- Ted Shepherd husband of  Leila, Montpelier  Idaho; Brother- Russell Shepherd husband of Arlene, Sandy, UT. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and one great grandson. 

He grew up in Bear Lake County. He worked at the Royal Bakery in Montpelier, ID for Frank Sunderland and Freddie Parker. 

Ray was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in various positions within the church and was currently the Young Men's President. Ray served for 20 years in US Navy where he was a Nuclear Medicine Technician and a Pharmacy Technician.  Upon retiring from the service, he worked at numerous Nuclear Power Plants across the country.   

Upon moving to Bedford County, Ray volunteered for many years as an EMT for the Cumberland Valley Fire Company.  He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113 and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.  Ray loved antique cars and owned and showed cars in Bedford County.  He also loved car racing and raced Hobby Stock Cars at the Bedford Speedway.    

Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time helping his family and friends.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He will be greatly missed. 

A funeral service was held in Bedford on Monday, February 1st, 2016. 

Military rights and Interment were held at Union Cemetery, Centerville, PA.
